After a night of sleeping with no food or drink, your body needs nourishment. But finding time to eat while getting out the door can be tricky. Here are some speedy, nutritious breakfast ideas.
Toaster Foods
A toaster can be your best friend in the morning. Toss some food items in it, press the lever down, and you've got breakfast a few minutes later. Think bread slices, bagels, English muffins, and the like. Top it with butter, peanut butter, jam, jelly, honey, or even Nutella. Yummy!
Blender Breakfasts
You can toss a few items in a blender and have an instant breakfast, one that you can enjoy as you get ready for your day or take with you on the run.
Blend your favourite yogurt with some hunks of fruit and an ice cube or two. If you like your smoothie thinner, add some juice or milk. Use frozen fruit for a cooler drink.
For a super speedy breakfast, blend a cup of milk with a packet of instant breakfast powder. To kick it up a notch, toss in a handful of your favourite fruit.

Other five minute breakfast fixes include:
- Grab a tortilla, wrap some things inside it, and you are good to go. Some popular fillers include slices or chunks of meat, cheese slices, veggie strips, and salsa.
- Bake, buy, or pick up muffins for a super-fast breakfast.
- Cold cereals, especially the ones not coated in a layer of sugar, are handy to throw in a bowl or to take in a to-go cup.
- Microwave eggs for a two minute scrambled egg breakfast.
- Fruit is easy and takes less than a minute - a banana, apple, mandarin orange, etc.
- Cottage cheese with fruit tossed in is quick.
- A baggie of tidy foods like cheese cubes, raisins, grapes, hard cereals, walnuts, almonds, and granola can easily be tossed into a pocket.
- Buy or cook some waffles or pancakes and then zap them in the morning for a quick morning meal.
- Stick an energy bar in your pocket as you run out the door. Make sure it has a good dose of protein and fibre.
- Make a batch of breakfast bars on the weekend and you'll have a ready-made breakfast for every day in the week ahead.
- Sprinkle cheese on toasted or untoasted English muffins and zap them in the microwave until the cheese melts.

- Crackers with peanut butter spread on top are super speedy.
- Put some oatmeal or other hot cereal in the crock pot before going to bed and a hot meal will be ready for you when you wake up.
- Have a hardboiled egg that you made the night before.
- Fix something the night before to have ready to grab and go in the morning. Popular ideas include parfaits, fruit salad, melon wrapped in prosciutto, breakfast burrito, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The possibilities for a super-quick breakfast are limitless. There's no reason a lack of time should be the cause of you missing a kick-start breakfast. As a bonus, eating breakfast helps you lose weight in the long run.
