The plot of this sci-fi movie is a common one - aliens are taking over the Earth and humans must do everything possible to survive. The aliens in this film are larger than those in most movies. While the tiniest aliens can meander through normal sized rooms, most are large enough to step over skyscrapers with the ease in which you or I would step over a traffic cone.
The aliens look like machines until they open their mouths to ingest people; then they resemble a Venus flytrap.
The movie revolves around a half dozen friends hanging out in one of the top floors of a high-rise apartment. After a night of partying, they wake up to find alien mother ships hovering over Los Angeles. The light emitted from the ships sucks humans into the ships once they find themselves staring at the other-worldly beams. We watch people get sucked into the alien ships by the hundreds. Of course we are rooting for our group of friends not to get sucked off Earth.
The biggest quandary at the outset of the movie is whether to stay in the apartment and bide their time or try to escape to the waters around L.A. One of the guys seems to believe that if they can somehow evade the aliens and get to the marina that they see in the distance, they'll be safe. No one understands why he feels that way but, tired of sitting around the apartment waiting for something to happen, they opt to try his escape plan.
So as not to ruin the movie for you, I'll just say that the action picks up in the underground parking garage.
Military Scenes in Skyline
The military scenes are a tad bit unrealistic. I imagine people in the Armed Forces won't be overly impressed with how pathetic the skills are of the servicemen in the movie.
Skyline Actors
The majority of actors in this movie are well-known TV stars who seem to be aiming to break into headlining movie roles.
- Eric Balfour - over a dozen TV shows including 24 and Haven
- Scottie Thompson - numerous TV shows, mainly NCIS and Trauma
- Brittany Daniel - a handful of TV shows but is most known for her role as Kelly Pitts on The Game
- David Zayas - an ex-cop who plays mainly law enforcement officers on TV shows including OZ and Dexter
- Donald Faison - known mainly for his role as Dr. Chris Turk in the show Scrubs
The Skyline Ending
The ending of this film isn't as "Hollywood" as most alien movies. Outlandish, yes, but not as lame as you might expect by the time you get to the end. The very last scene in the movie is out of place and the storyline would've been better without it but you can see why they included it instead of opting for a tidier finish - to set up for Skyline 2.
