Writing Prompts For the First Week of August
August 1st - In many countries, people have fought hard in order for the citizens to have the right to vote. Do you think voting should be mandatory?
August 2nd – What are your thoughts on using animals for laboratory testing? Is it acceptable if it saves human lives?
August 3rd – Do you think the government should or should not allow phone lines to be wiretapped if they feel they have just cause?
August 4th – The four day work week is an idea that has been debated for years. Instead of working 9-5 Monday through Friday, people would work for 10 hours straight, four days a week. Do you think this is a good or bad idea?
August 5th – The story of Pocahontas is one that has been told so many times it's hard to remember what really happened with the young woman. Tell your version of the story of the Indian chief's daughter.
August 6th – Dreams of falling and dreams of flying are common for many people. Separately, what do you think the two dreams mean?
August 7th – Is there still a glass ceiling for women in the workforce? Why or why not.
Writing Prompts For the Second Week of August
August 8th – Is elder abuse inevitable in senior's lodges and rest homes? What, if anything, can be done to prevent it?
August 9th – Is inventing in precious metals a wise investment? Why or why not? How about precious gems?
August 10th – If you could take a seven day walking tour anywhere in the world, where would you choose? What would you want to make sure you saw during your week-long walking tour?
August 11th – If Apple hired you to make a new app, any app you wanted, what kind would you choose to create? What would your app do?
August 12th – Prison overcrowding is a serious problem these days. What solution do you think might help with the issue?
August 13th – If you were given a deaf puppy that you had to raise, how would you deal with the issue? What challenges do you think you would have to face?
August 14th – Teenage mothers are given a great deal of press but what about teenage fathers? Are their emotional needs overlooked? How do you think being a dad at 16 or 17 would affect a young man?
Writing Prompts For the Third Week of August
August 15th – Colours are said to have strong powers. How do you feel when you walk into a yellow room? How about a red room? Or a black room? What is your favourite colour and why?
August 16th – Tailgating is the cause of many motor vehicle accidents. Tailgaters claim that they do it to entice the person in front of them to go faster. Do you think it works, that people go faster when they are being tailgated? What is your opinion of tailgaters?
August 17th – Does your brain age like your heart and your skin does? If no, why not? If yes, what can you do to keep it young?
August 18th – Can small family farms compete with massive conglomerates who own farms that are made up of thousands of acres?
August 19th – Organ donation is a person's choice in most countries. If someone didn't make their wishes clear before death and there are no relatives to express their choice, should their organs be donated once someone dies?
August 20th – There are over 33 million people worldwide living with AIDS. Has AIDS changed the sexual attitudes of people since it made headlines in the mid-1980s?
August 21st – The cost of University tuition, books and fees are skyrocketing. Considering that an education is one of the keys to being a productive member of society, are countries as a whole going to suffer from the higher costs of a post-secondary education?
Writing Prompts For the Fourth Week of August
August 22nd – Freedom of speech is thriving on the Internet. Do you think it should be policed? If so, how can that happen?
August 23rd - Do you think angels live among us on Earth?
August 24th – Internet chat rooms are very popular. Do you think they are a good place for people to spend their time? Is it safe to be in online chat rooms?
August 25th – Have shopping malls changed the buying and spending habits of people who frequent them?
August 26th – Are discrimination laws effective? Do they do enough to protect people who are being discrimated against for their race, sex, weight, health, etc.?
August 27th – What qualities are most important to you in an elected official? What qualities do you despise in the same politician?
August 28th – If you were on a sailboat and came across an island that had been previously undiscovered, what would you do? Would you explore it yourself? What would you hope to find?
Writing Prompts For the Last Few Days in August
August 29th – Blended families can be challenging for many people. If you were to become part of a blended family, what aspect do you think would be the hardest for you to adjust to?
August 30th – Are furs a fashion statement that you love or love to hate? What are your thoughts on the anti-fur statements that celebrities make?
August 31st - What is your favourite movie genre? Why? What direction do you hope the genre takes in the future?
