Writing Prompts For the First Week of October

October 1st – If you had the opportunity to vanish with no risk of ever being found, would you do it? If yes, describe the identity you would make for yourself and where you would go.

October 2nd – Is acid rain a legitimate concern these days? Why or why not?

October 3rd – Do you think high schools and universities should distribute condoms in an attempt to reduce the rate of teenage pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases? Why or why not?

October 4th – In the future, do you think everyone will have a chip implanted in them that has a GPS locator inside it?

October 5th – Hate crimes have been around for centuries. Do you think there will ever be a time that they aren't a part of society?

October 6th – Dozens of airplanes have disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle in the past century. What do you think happened to all the planes that have never been discovered or located?

October 7th – Do you think there were ever weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East? If no, why not? If yes, where are they?

Writing Prompts For the Second Week of October

October 8th – Should cameras be allowed in courtrooms and trials be shown on television? Why or why not? Do you think it would change the legal system in any way?

October 9th – There has been talk of putting a 'fat tax' on junk food similar to the tax that some countries have on cigarettes and alcohol. Do you agree or disagree with imposing such a tax on junk food like chips and cookies?

October 10th – Do you think political candidates should have to be open about their campaign financing or is it not for public knowledge? Do candidates with more money in their coffers have a better chance of winning?

October 11th – Many countries spend millions of dollars on space exploration. Do you think that is money well-spent or should the resources be allocated elsewhere?

October 12th – How can you increase your own personal productivity? How developed do you feel your time management skills are?

October 13th – On a scale of one to ten, how stressful is your life? How can people reduce the stress in their life if that is a goal for them? Do stressful lives have effects on a person's body?

October 14th – If you only needed one hour of sleep a day instead of eight, how would you fill the other seven hours?

Writing Prompts For the Third Week of October

October 15th – How can adults improve their self-esteem when it is low?

October 16th – If someone chooses not to have children or is unable to have children for whatever reason, do you believe they lose out on anything in life?

October 17th – 'Nature deprivation disorder' is a term coined by Richard Louv in 2005 and refers to children not spending as much time outdoors. Louv alleges nature deprivation disorder is causing a number of behavioural problems. Do you believe not getting enough time in nature has negative consequences?

October 18th – Stonehenge was erected between 2200 and 2500 B.C. It is a gathering of rocks that are displayed in a circle. Theorists have different opinions as to why Stonehenge was made; the rocks were created for a burial ground, the rocks were intended to be a place of healing, and the rocks were situated to be a part of the landscape, among many other theories. No one knows the real intention as nothing is known about the people who created it. Why do you think the rocks were placed in a massive circle almost over four centuries ago?

October 19th – Tell the story of how you think the Mafia (the crime syndicate that was established in Italy in the mid 19th century) came to be.

October 20th – Is it a good or bad thing that Cuba has not had any American influences in the past 50 years? Explain.

October 21st – "You are what you eat" - do you agree or disagree with that statement?

Writing Prompts For the Fourth Week of October

October 22nd – If you had to work in a library, what section would you like to work in and why? Some popular departments include adult fiction, young adult fiction, juvenile fiction, audio books, reference, newspapers and magazines, and nonfiction, among others.

October 23rd - Jack Kevorkian is an advocate for physician-assisted suicide. He claims to have helped over 130 patients end their life and served 8 years in prison after being found guilty of second degree murder. What is your opinion about what Kevorkian did?

October 24th – Should kids in school ever be subject to drug testing? In what instances would you think it is acceptable to give minors a drug test?

October 25th – The law of Double Jeopardy - that someone can't be charged twice for the same crime - has allowed many people to get off scot-free from something they are potentially guilty of. Do you think Double Jeopardy is a good law or should it be abolished?

October 26th – What is more annoying to you - spam e-mail or telemarketers? Should one or both of them be outlawed? How could they be policed?

October 27th – People have to pass a test in order to get their driver's license. Should people have to do the same to become parents?

October 28th – In 2002, almost two dozen countries and member states adopted the Euro as their currency instead of each having their own form of money. It mainstreamed the financing in most of Europe. Do you think it would be a good or bad idea to have one form of currency that is used worldwide?

Writing Prompts For the Last Few Days in October

October 29th – The safety and security of bank accounts is often called into question. Is your money safer in a bank or under your mattress?

October 30th – In some countries, executions are televised in order to try and deter crime. Do you think it is effective?

October 31st - It's Halloween and the ghosts and ghouls are out. At what age should children stop trick or treating and why?
